German-Korean violinist and violist Christian Kim is recognized as one of the most versatile artists and educators of his generation. The Saarbrücker Zeitung praised him as “one of the most talented virtuosos of our time,” while the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung described him as a “sound aesthete of outstanding quality.” With nearly three decades of international concert experience and extensive university-level teaching in Europe, Asia, and North America, he combines artistic excellence, pedagogical depth, and innovative educational leadership.
He has performed throughout more than 30 countries across Europe, Asia, and North America, appearing in major venues such as the Lotte Concert Hall and Seoul Arts Center, the International Forum Tokyo, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Gasteig Munich, the Odessa Philharmonic, and the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. His performances have been broadcast by national and international media, including ZDF, WDR, SWR (Germany), NHK (Japan), ABC, NBC, CBS (USA), KBS, SBS, MBC (Korea) and others.
He received the First Prize and overall highest distinction at the Concorso Musicale Europeo in Turin, alongside top prizes at the International Kocian Violin Competition (Czech Republic) and the Concours Européen pour Jeunes Solistes (Luxembourg).
He maintains a long-standing partnership with the internationally renowned Sejong Soloists (New York) and is a member of the Berlin-based ensemble Symphoniacs since 2016. Their debut album (Universal Music, 2016) reached the Top 10 of the German Billboard charts, and the Japanese release (Warner Music Japan, 2019) entered at No. 1. Concert engagements have taken the ensemble to venues such as the Mercedes-Benz Arena and the Brandenburg Gate, as well as major festivals across Europe and Asia.
From 2017 to 2023, Christian Kim served as Professor of Violin and Viola at Kangnam University in Seoul, becoming one of the youngest professors appointed in South Korea, where he developed an internationally successful performance studio.
Since 2024, he has taught violin and viola at the University of Music Münster, where he continues to shape the next generation of young musicians. His students have won numerous awards at prestigious national and international competitions, including the Mozart Competition Korea, Rising Stars Korea, the Nanpa Competition, and the International Josef Micka Competition in Prague.
As Lead of Violin & Viola Content at the world-leading online education platform tonebase.co, he oversaw and curated a comprehensive curriculum used by tens of thousands of musicians worldwide. He is also the founder and artistic director of the tonebase Violin Festival Münster, hosting major artists such as James Ehnes, Timothy Chooi, and Robin Wilson.
Born in Boston in 1986 to a German scientist and a Korean pianist, he grew up in Germany and was admitted as one of the country’s youngest pre-college students at the age of ten. He studied at the Karlsruhe University of Music (Artist Diploma), Yale University (Master of Music), and completed his Konzertexamen at the Detmold University of Music. His teachers include Valery Klimov, Josef Rissin, Hyo Kang, and Koh Gabriel Kameda, with further artistic guidance from Midori, Maxim Vengerov, Zakhar Bron, Shlomo Mintz, Boris Berman, Peter Frankl, and the Tokyo String Quartet.
